Job Responsibilities:
 
We are looking for a dynamic individual familiar with both conventional and emergent educational technologies and communication tools to head the educational endeavors  of our Conservative Jewish community. The right person will bring  enthusiasm and professional expertise to our, 275 member-family Conservative Jewish community, and share a commitment to our congregational values. He or she will have a combination of Jewish educational management and programming experience, Hebrew and Judaic knowledge, curriculum development skills, multimedia skills, and Jewish cultural background. The primary responsibility of the Education Director is to ensure that the synagogue’s educational programs, both youth and adult, are effectively structured  and delivered.
 
The following are representative of the experience and background we are looking for, by category:
 
Experience 
– has worked with children in a teaching role
– has worked or volunteered with special needs children
–has worked in a school management role 
– has worked in a Jewish institutional framework (preferably a Hebrew school or synagogue)
 
Qualifications:  Minimum: BA degree in a relevant  field
 Preferred: MA in Jewish Studies or a related field
 
Skills
-reads, writes, and speaks Hebrew to a fair degree of fluency
-is familiar with Jewish traditions and liturgy
-knows Jewish history and culture
– Excellent multi-media and digital skills
 
Background
– lives or is willing to move to Hamilton
-will join the synagogue and participate in services
– has teacher training or educational leadership experience
 
Attitude
– inclusive of interfaith families, special needs families, non-traditional family structures 
– energetic, friendly, creative, and enthusiastic about learning- committed to Jewish learning and Jewish identity 
– familiar with virtual communications and online learning tools such as wikis, blogs, podcasts, HTML, facebook, twitter, web meetings and seminars 
 
Programming
Out-of-the-box programming for multi-age events
Coordinate with Rabbi and religious committee regarding Bar and Bat Mitzvah programmes
Program design and activities for children and youth family programming
Informal adult education 
Familiarization and utilization of  resources available through Hamilton Jewish Federation and USCJ.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Orientation, supervision, and evaluation of teaching staff
 
 Curriculum development in consultation with school staff
 
Creation and implementation of family programming that supports the Hebrew school’s educational goals 
 
Teaching certain age groups or sessions
 
Implement ‘Torah for tots’ program; High Holiday programs; activities and programming for other holidays (Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Purim, Passover, Shavuot etc.); with the engagement of volunteers from school and congregation
 
Raising awareness about the school and increasing school enrollment  
 
Communicate with families through channels such as newsletters, family programming bulletins, upcoming activities memos; update  synagogue website
 
 Communicate with staff and management, including regular meetings with Rabbi, Board Education chair and education committee 
 
Educational programming in coordination with other stakeholders in the Jewish community 
 
Management of all administrative aspects of the Hebrew School, including registration, calendar, communication with families and congregation
 
Maintaining enrollment, tuition, and school records
 
Administration of Hebrew School budget in conjunction with the  synagogue’s finance committee
