If you are with a loved-one during or after their final moments, call Dan Levy for immediate assistance at 905-815-3262. Dan Levy or our Beth Jacob office staff can guide you through all the necessary next steps including connecting with United Hebrew Memorial Chapel to arrange for proper care of the deceased. If a death occurs in a hospital, their staff can make this call for you.
Set time and place of the funeral with the United Hebrew Memorial Chapel. The funeral is usually held at 28 Ewen Road or at graveside.
Prepare the obituary
Our helpful Beth Jacob office staff can assist you with the wording. Items to consider including are: age, place of birth, cause of death, occupation, education, memberships in organizations, military service or other noteworthy achievements. List survivors in the immediate family. Give the time and place of the funeral. Suggest where memorial contributions may be made.
Choose the pallbearers
Six people who can carry the casket are needed. It is customary not to appoint immediate family members as pallbearers. You may choose up to an additional four people to serve as honorary pallbearers. It is also customary to arrange for one person to act as a shomer, who would accompany the deceased from the funeral home to the cemetery.
